Two core check-in lines
For hotels, “我有预订” and “可以……吗?” cover most opening needs.
Swap words for hotel questions
Swap “早餐” for checkout, check-in, or elevator to practice different hotel questions.
“预订” is reservation, while “预约” is more often appointment booking.
Common check-in flow
Hotel check-in usually starts with “我有预订”, then showing a passport or ID. The front desk may ask “您的名字?”, “几晚?”, or questions about deposit.
Beginners do not need to catch every word. Listen for keywords: name, passport, room, breakfast, checkout time. If you miss something, say “请说慢一点”.
Passport, deposit, and registration (foreign guests)
Foreign guests usually need to show a passport at Chinese hotels; the front desk scans and registers it, which is a routine requirement. You can simply say “这是我的护照”.
Many hotels take a deposit (“押金”), refunded at checkout if the room is undamaged. It is often a card pre-authorization or a scan; the desk may say “需要押金” and “退房时退给您”.
Expand into hotel needs
After check-in, common questions include “早餐几点开始?”, “电梯在哪儿?”, “几点退房?”, and “可以晚一点退房吗?”. The pattern “可以……吗?” helps with many requests.
To ask for something, use “可以给我……吗?”, such as “可以给我多一条毛巾吗?” (one more towel) or “可以给我一个转换插头吗?” (an adapter plug).
How to report a room problem
If something is wrong, start with “你好,我的房间有问题”, then add the detail: “没有热水” (no hot water), “空调不工作” (AC not working), “房间太吵” (too noisy), or “想换一个房间” (I'd like to change rooms).
Saying the problem one short line at a time is easier for the desk to follow than one long explanation, and gets you help faster.
A full check-in dialogue (read along)
You: 三晚。
Listen once, then repeat line by line. Swap “三晚” for “两晚” or “一晚”, and the breakfast question for “几点退房?”, to cover everything from check-in to checkout.
Prepare the booking name and ID first
Hotel check-in usually follows this order: reservation, ID, room type, breakfast, and check-out time. Learn “我有预订” and “这是我的护照” first, and you can handle the opening half.
If the front desk speaks too fast, use “请您再说一遍” or “可以写一下吗?” to slow the exchange down. Hotel language is more formal than street directions, so slower and more polite is natural.
A 5-minute review route
Minute one is only for the core lines: “我有预订。” . Do not add new vocabulary yet; first make sure you can read the characters aloud and turn the English meaning back into Mandarin.
Minutes two to four change one real variable: place, quantity, time, person, or preference. In the final minute, close the page and say the idea with your own details. PandaKiko treats this guide as learned only when you can turn “我有预订。” into your own sentence.
